First of all, however, we must mention that, despite the general opinion, Zanzibar is not at all an exclusive destination, from a financial point of view, but only in terms of tourist attractions, whether we’re talking about flora, fauna, or others.
Prices in Zanzibar 2022: from restaurants and supermarkets to transport and leisure
We structured the information into several “chapters”, the most important being the prices in restaurants, supermarkets, transport / fuel, sports / leisure, and clothing / footwear. For starters, it should be noted that the local currency is the Tanzanian siling (1 GBP=2.840 TZS), and prices in Zanzibar are much lower than in London (on average, 3-4 times). The sufficient budget for a week of vacation is 230 GBP (low cost), 525 GBP (comfortable option), respectively over 1.700 GBP per person (luxury).

Transport – local transport ticket 0.25 GBP, monthly pass 6.25 GBP, petrol 1 GBP per liter, taxi 1 GBP per km + 1.75 GBP starting;
Sports / leisure – tennis court rental 1.75 GBP per hour, cinema ticket 3.25 GBP;
Clothing / footwear – a pair of Levi’s jeans 10.5 GBP, Zara, H&M, etc. summer dress 8.75 GBP, a pair of men’s shoes 26.25 GBP, a pair of Nike sneakers 73.5 GBP.
As you can see, the prices in Zanzibar aren’t exaggerated at all, which will allow you to relax and fully enjoy your stay in a truly exotic place.
